Agion Antimicrobial Incorporated into SIREC’s Industrial Flooring for Enhanced Microbial Resistance

Wakefield, MA., March 5, 2013 –Sciessent, creators of the Agion brand of antimicrobial and odor management technology, have teamed up with Italian industrial flooring manufacturer SIREC to produce a new line of epoxy resin flooring that is resistant to microbial growth for use in a multitude of industries.

The new flooring is resistant to the growth of bacteria and fungi most commonly associated with food companies, along with other common bacteria often tracked in by employees on various industrial sites. SIREC president, Luca Bolzoni, commented “We at SIREC are proud to once again lead the way in both innovation and consumer protection by staying on the cutting edge technologically. The teamwork of SIREC and Sciessent has been an inspired and unique collaboration”.

Using a silver-based technology and a ceramic material, Sciessent and SIREC can regulate the release of silver on the surface of the flooring, guaranteeing optimum uniformity of performance and long lasting durability. By releasing ionic silver at a steady rate, a compound less toxic than kitchen salt and less irritating than talcum powder, these resin floors have continuous protection against microorganisms. Agion’s enhanced interaction in SIREC’s epoxy resin flooring counters microbes in three ways: starvation, sterilization and suffocation. The outcome of this three step process essentially renders the microbes ineffective. In contrast to flooring not treated with the Agion antimicrobial, chemical antimicrobial agents interact with only one site on each microbe allowing for a higher chance of developing a resistance.

Sciessent CEO, Paul Ford, expressed his satisfaction in the collaboration when he stated, “Sciessent is pleased to expand further into the European market by teaming up with SIREC who has over 19 years of experience in the industrial flooring industry. By moving into this area of the market, Sciessent is once again proving how versatile its Agion product line is. We look forward to continued work in the industrial flooring industry through SIREC.”
